Art has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. My mother told me a few years ago that as a child rather than nap I drew on my pillowcases. I was either drawing or making mud pies and decorating them with twigs, stones or green apples.
Looking for a creative outlet I began taking classes in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I quickly became enchanted with clay. Throwing on the wheel creating functional ware and the firing process has become my passion. There is such a sense of excitement when you open the kiln after a glaze firing and see the final results for the first time.
Inspiration comes from many things, such as just taking a quiet walk in my own neighborhood or in the beautiful wooded areas in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I often use bits of nature in the decorating of a piece of pottery found while walking. My ceramic style is in constant transition as I grow in my knowledge of the processes involved and by studying the various styles of some of the well known potters.
It is very rewarding to me watching someone experience a connection with pottery that I have created.
